About our project

Target Audience

Primary and Secondary school students between age 11 - 14.

Why did we choose to work on France?

  • We believe that Singapore can learn many things from France.

  • Even though France has gone through many wars and different political systems, it has still managed to emerge as a successful influential country in the European Union.

  • In fact, France was conquered by Nazi Germany during WWII and still managed to become a prosperous country today.

Objectives of our project

  • To allow students to have a deeper grasp and extensive knowledge about the history and evolution of war in France.

  • To encourage students to learn and know  more about war than just basic general knowledge.

  • To fully understand how wars can impact societies

  • change the course of history, as well as the devastating destruction wars can bring.

  • We are also trying to make learning about the history of France as fun as possible.

About Our Product

  • We intend to design a lesson package and build an app of an interactive map to facilitate the lesson package.

  • The map will be one of France, with marker which students can tap to find out more of what battles occurred at that marker

  • Through this interactive map, we hope to engage the student in a fun way while also stimulating and challenging them

  • Accompanying this, we will design an online website that provides additional information about our game. Games such as Kahoots, crosswords and also videos will facilitate and compliment our lesson package.

  • We hope to make it as visually appealing as possible, including pictures and if possible,  war comics.

A QR code to access the app will be included once it is finished

Anchor 1

Why is our method of bring out our lesson the most effective?

  • The National Center for Education reported in 2011 that a significant number of American students felt disengaged from their education and were unable to apply their learning to real life. This may seem obvious, but the report also found that higher levels of engagement closely correlate with high levels of achievement and with lower dropout rates.

  • In order for better allow students to understand what they're learning and not just memorize — it is vital that students learn how to connect what occurs in the classroom with their lives and the world outside of the classroom.

  • One way to do this is by encouraging independent hands-on research.

  • A 2009 study conducted by researchers at Purdue University found that 8th graders who were taught about human impacts on water quality through a hands-on learning method, as opposed to only the textbook and lecture method, showed higher comprehension of the concepts, particularly among those students where English was not their first language.

  • Students who physically experience scientific concepts understand them more deeply and score better on science tests, according to a new UChicago-led study.

  • Brain scans showed that students who took a hands-on approach to learning had activation in sensory and motor-related parts of the brain when they later thought about concepts such as angular momentum and torque. Activation of these brain areas was associated with better quiz performance by college physics students who participated in the research.

  • Even though these studies were not carried out with History materials, we believe our interactive map will enable the students to learn better, which will stimulate their brain and allow them to have fun at the same time.
